James Hyland

James Hyland is the writer and producer of The London Shadow Show TV and radio series, and plays the role of "Monsieur" Shadow Man, the strange and disturbing master of ceremonies.

He is a five-time award-winning English actor, as well as a playwright, screenwriter, film editor, producer and director. His acting has been has been described as “astonishing” by Extra! Extra! as well as “utterly believable” by The Guardian.

Hyland developed his career in the British theatre, frequently performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Critically acclaimed performances include Derek Jarman in Jarman Garden at the Riverside Studios, described as “extraordinarily powerful” by Time Out, and Harthouse, Bounderby and Sleary in Hard Times, which he jointly adapted from the novel by Charles Dickens, described by News Shopper as "impeccably-acted, creative storytelling”, as well as Joseph Smith in the award-winning production of The Fire Raisers: "The star of this production is undoubtedly James Hyland” (Theatre World Magazine).

Under the mantle of his production company, Brother Wolf, Hyland has written and performed in numerous projects, some of them controversial, including Dead Meat: "Hyland pulls it off… a good character actor" (Time Out). Other work includes the short films Sharks and Blackbird of which he is also the writer, director, editor, and producer; as well as last year's London tour of his critically acclaimed one-man show A Christmas Carol - As told by Jacob Marley (deceased), described by Remotegoat as “Wonderful storytelling… clever funny and powerful".

Film roles include Tony, the mentally challenged actor, in Diagnosis: Superstar (nominated for Best UK Feature Film at the London Film Festival, 2008). Hyland is also known for the longest running adverts in Norwegian history, the Persil Colour "Black Snake" commercials. Featuring four members of a rock band, it's a hilarious spoof in the tradition of "Spinal Tap".
